Wednesday meeting

27/11/2024

You'll need to be familiar with our ceremonial if you are joining this meeting on Zoom.

We start at 7.00pm with reciting Zen Master Dogen's  Rules for Meditation (OBC translation, another well known translation has it as. 'Recommending Zazen To All People), there are bows at the start and end of this service. We utilize an audio recording of the Throssel Hole Abbey community to support our reciting and chanting. If you are joining on Zoom, it will help you to have your own copy of this text and the text for the  following 'Vespers'. Files of these can be downloaded from the Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey website here

Following the recitation of Rules for Meditation and bows, we will have sitting meditation for 20 minutes, walking meditation for 10 minutes, sitting for 20 minutes. To end the meditation, there is chanting of 'Vespers',  a hymn and short series of verses invoking different aspects of the heart of practice. Then there is an opportunity to talk about practice and have a cup of something. The meeting usually ends by 8.30pm.
