About the Temple
Dragon Bell Temple is a Buddhist temple, in the Soto Zen tradition and a temple of the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives.
Located in central Exeter it is run as a neighbourhood temple, offering a place of quiet and focus in the city, solely dedicated to meditation and the practice of Buddhism. Great value comes from meditation being firmly rooted in our everyday lives and having a local temple allows practitioners to integrate their Buddhist training into their often busy schedules. Having a resident teacher makes it possible to be given advice and teaching relating to everyday situations in a very ordinary and practical way. Often people meditate on their own and get discouraged. Participating in the daily routine of the temple with the congregation and the resident teacher offers encouragement and support, and helps to ground and establish an ongoing meditation routine. Meditating regularly encourages a steady growth of confidence in the practise that in turn enables the practitioner to become more focused, open, aware and contented, whilst engaging in the stuff of life
